Symptoms of Hypertension

Hypertension is a condition which is not always obvious.  For that matter, many people have it without realizing it, because it often occurs without symptoms.  This fact alone is the reason why it is important to have your blood pressure checked on a regular basis–  the earlier that it is detected, the better a chance you have of being advised of appropriate treatment, therefore lessening your risk of additional complications.

However, if you have been experiencing certain symptoms, this makes immediate medical intervention even more urgent.  You probably already know that being “in tune” with your own health means being on the alert to any sudden or noticeable changes, and that you should take any such changes to be a signal for you to consult with your physician as soon as possible.

In addition to the fact that hypertension can be present without symptoms, there is another relevant point to keep in mind:  the symptoms which may indicate hypertension can also be associated with other equally-serious conditions.  These facts should make it clear that while experiencing any of these symptoms means getting an immediate evaluation from your doctor is essential, it is just as important to keep up-to-date with regular check-ups.

If you visit your health care provider on a regular basis, this is your best means of safeguarding yourself in terms of early diagnosis and early treatment if it is necessary.

The key symptoms associated with hypertension include headaches which are out of the range of normal for you, sudden onset of problems with your ability to breathe or your eyesight, fatigue which is not related to strenuous activity or your usual lifestyle, chest pain, and an irregular heartbeat.

If you are “in tune” with your health, the sudden onset of such problems will likely be quite noticeable to you.  The key is if the symptom or symptoms are not within your normal range of experience, and that it is not directly related to your normal activities.

It should go without saying, but in the interest of your health perhaps it is a good idea to add, that if you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, it is essential for you to consult with a physician as soon as possible.  Do not make the mistake of trying to diagnose yourself, or, even worse, to dismiss such symptoms in terms of waiting for them to pass.

Protecting your health should be your primary concern.  Whether you have had any symptoms of hypertension or not, being evaluated for this condition is a simple and painless procedure.  It will take no more than a few minutes of your time–  and it is well worth what you will gain in terms of your peace of mind!

If the tests conclude that you do have hypertension, the sooner it is diagnosed the sooner your physician can determine the best course of action for your treatment.  Don't allow either fear or worry to cause you to procrastinate about getting a qualified medical opinion about whether or not you have hypertension–  it is not worth the risk to your longterm health!  Whether you are symptomatic or symptom-free, all it will take is an easy little test for you to know for sure.
